Motupa still dreams of Pirates success

On-loan Baroka striker Gift Motupa might be enjoying himself at Bakgaga but has not erased Orlando Pirates from his heart as he would like to return at the end of his loan spell.

On-loan Baroka striker Gift Motupa might be enjoying himself at Bakgaga but has not erased Orlando Pirates from his heart as he would like to return at the end of his loan spell.

Motupa's loan move from Pirates to rejoin Baroka at the start of the season has given him a new lease of life. He has scored four goals in nine league fixtures, while he only netted twice in the 34 matches he played for the Buccaneers over the past two years.

Despite enduring torrid two years at the Sea Robbers, Motupa still wishes to don the famous black and white jersey.

"I am still a Pirates player. I believe I still have unfinished business there. If it happens that I go back I would take that opportunity and try to do better than the first time," Motupa told Sowetan.

As much as he has no problem with returning to Pirates, the 23-year-old sharpshooter is feeling at home at the Limpopo-based outfit.

"I am feeling at home here [at Baroka]. Things are going well so far and I think knowing the club well has helped me a lot. I grew up here and the chairman [Khurishi Mphahlele] is like a father to me," said Motupa.

Baroka suffered their first defeat of the season, a 1-0 to Bidvest Wits at the weekend, but hope to quickly forget about that as they shift focus to cup competition. They face struggling Cape Town City in the first round of the Telkom Knockout at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.
