From travelling all over the country for away matches to players' salaries, Baroka's monthly bill runs up to about R5-million, says club chairman Khurishi Mphahlele.
Speaking to Sowetan on the sidelines of their partnership launch with funeral service provider Two Mountains in Johannesburg yesterday, the Bakgaga owner admitted that players' salaries were the highest expense for the Limpopo-based side.
"You need at least R5-million a month to run a Premiership team without a stress, but that is for Baroka. I cannot speak for other teams because we do not have the same [number of] staff," Mphahlele said.
"What I can tell you is that the amount is enough for Baroka to keep going."
"The salaries of players is the most expensive feature in this R5-million. The highest earner here is getting R200000 and the lowest is pocketing R50000 every month," he revealed, without disclosing the players' names.
Mphahlele, however, was reluctant to disclose how much his team received from their sponsors, but he stressed the importance of keeping the players happy at the club.
"Our sponsors are giving us a lot of money on monthly basis, but I cannot divulge what we are getting from them because it is confidential."
Recently, Platinum Stars confirmed they were looking to sell the club because they could not keep up with expenses of running the club. However, that seems not to be the case for Baroka.
"We are busy with some car company which might also be our partners. With all these, I can safely say that my team is not necessarily struggling."
