Letsoaka eyes second win at Wits

Teams with their backs to the wall are often the most difficult to face, and Bloemfontein Celtic have been wounded on and off the field in the past week as they prepare to face Bidvest Wits in tonight's Nedbank Cup first round match.

Celtic, whose owner Max Tshabalala put the "for sale" signs up this week, travel to Bidvest Stadium hoping for a victory to begin rescuing an ailing 2015-16 season.

Celtic's last win came against Wits, on January 31 at Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium. Before that, you have to go back to September 21 for the Free State side's previous victory, 2-0 against Pretoria University at Tuks Stadium.

Coach Serame Letsoaka, who moved from Golden Arrows to Celtic citing family reasons in December, has been plunged into a difficult situation at a troubled club.

"Wits is the only team we have beaten [since he took over], but that does not mean we should be complacent," Letsoaka said of tonight's match.

"Maybe this is one game we can use to turn the corner.

"It's not going to be an easy game, but we have to continue fighting. The good thing is that we have been creating chances and we have played well in our matches."

With Wits having slipped to 10 points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns in the PSL race, the Nedbank Cup might be their last chance at silverware in 2015-16.

Clever Boys coach Gavin Hunt will aim to go one better than when he steered his side to the 2014 final of this competition, where they lost 3-1 against Pirates.

Wits had to rely on an injury-time winner by James Keene to overcome last-placed Maritzburg United in their last league match, a result Hunts said had lifted the Johannesburg side.

"We have a good, fighting team, we work hard, and I think we deserve it. Any other coach would say the same thing - that we deserve it. But we lost a game to Celtic in the 94th minute the week before so sometimes what goes around comes around, and what you put in you get out."
