Please entertain the fans!

Chiefs and Pirates have had contrasting fortunes of late, but there's no better place to judge either team than in the derby.

Many people have noted Pirates' poor domestic form and impressive CAF Confederation Cup performance, but it's not as though Chiefs have been firing on all cylinders themselves.

They may be unbeaten but have drawn five matches - an indication that it's not been all smooth for Steve Komphela.

Granted, Komphela had to make a big adjustment from coaching Maritzburg United to joining a big team like Chiefs. Even he is still struggling to adapt. But he seems to be getting it right now and the players are starting to understand his philosophy.

You look at the combination of Edward Manqele and Camaldine Abraw - it is promising.

Whatever the case, you can't foretell what's going to happen tomorrow based on previous results.

I just hope players from both sides start taking matters into their own hands. A derby is not a game to be played via remote control - through the coach's instructions only. As a player, you need to have that individual brilliance when you can turn the game on its head.

In my time I used to disregard what the coach was saying and seek to entertain the fans. This is one of the most disappointing things about the derby these days - almost no entertainment. That can't be right for a match of this magnitude where fans go all out to be part of this experience. They should get value for money.

Today's players - and I'm aware football has changed - do not create a bond between themselves and the fans. It's as if they don't have time for the fans. But it is those small things that make the biggest difference.

Prediction: Let me sit this one out, it's too tough to call.
