Pitso won't miss Malajila in City duel

Cuthbert Malajila is unavailable again for Mamelodi Sundowns tonight as they look for another goal feast, this time against Polokwane City, who have the second-worst defence in the Absa Premiership.

They meet at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville at 7.30pm.

The 30-year-old is also unlikely to return in time for Saturday's home match against another struggling outfit, Maritzburg United, as he recovers from a knee strain suffered at the start of the month.

"He won't make the game against Polokwane but we'll see about the weekend," said coach Pitso Mosimane. "But he must recover properly."

Malajila was top scorer for the club last season but missed Sundowns' last two matches away against Bloemfontein Celtic and Free State Stars, where they scored six goals away in Bethlehem on Sunday to book a Telkom Knockout semifinal spot.

Mosimane suggested he was not overly concerned by Malajila's absence even if the Zimbabwe international is nominally the lead attacker for the Brazilians.

"At the weekend we saw [Katlego] Mashego get a chance to play and score, we saw Leo [Castro] score and Mogakolodi Ngele play as a second striker and score. You know I can't play everybody."

City, who are 13th in the PSL standings, have conceded 12 goals in seven games this season. Only Maritzburg, with 16 goals, have let in more. In head-to-head stats, Sundowns and Polokwane City have met in four league matches since 2013/2014.

Dowms have claimed three wins compared with one for Rise and Shine. Sundowns won both of their two previous home matches against Polokwane, scoring six unanswered goals in the process. Last season, the Brazilians did a league double over City, winning 3-0 in Polokwane and 5-0 in the return game in Tshwane.
