Strip mayor & others of loot

THE erstwhile executive mayor of the City of Matlosana, China Dodovu, has confessed to being trapped in an extramarital affair that did not come cheaply.

According to figures supplied by Dodovu he had to cough up a monthly allowance of R15000 that increased to R25000, R100000 for finishing the building of a house in Mahikeng and R60000 for the deposit on a Mini Cooper.

The Auditor-General's 2010 report on the disclaimers the Matlosana municipality received in 2007, 2008 and 2009 lays the blame squarely on the mayor's discretionary fund, which could not be accounted for during those years.

In the light of these scandalous revelations can the Public Protector, the Hawks and the Auditor-General perform a forensic audit and do a paper trail to the transactions that were just money-laundering exercises? Companies involved in the looting of the municipality's coffers must be tracked down and prosecuted. The Asset Forfeiture Unit should also be called in to seize their ill-gotten gains.
