Zamalek not dead, buried yet - Billiat

Mamelodi Sundowns must prepare for war against Zamalek in Egypt despite enjoying a 3-0 CAF Champions League final lead from the first leg, says Khama Billiat.

The Brazilians appear to be home and dry after they walloped the Egyptians at Lucas Moripe Stadium at the weekend. As is the case with most finals, this was also expected to be a tight affair but Sundowns were simply too good for the visitors, who even conceded an own goal under pressure.

"We had our game plan and we did exactly what the coach asked us to do. The goals are very important, but so is not conceding as well," said Billiat.

The Zimbabwean forward insisted, however, that the convincing victory doesn't mean Zamalek are dead and buried. To get to the final, Zamalek beat Wydad Casablanca 4-0 at home in the semis and despite losing 5-2 away, they went through 6-5 on aggregate.

Against Sundowns, Zamalek will be aware that it could well be mission impossible but they would be buoyed by the fact that they put Wydad to the sword in their home encounter and may do the same against Sundowns.

Billiat said Sundowns will have to put in another impressive display.

"It is not going to be easy going to Egypt and we will have to double our efforts. They are going to come at us," said the 2016 CAF African player of the year nominee.

"The [3-0] result is what we needed, but we still have a lot of work to do in Egypt."

The return leg takes place at the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria on Sunday (8.30pm).
