Dikgacoi is just training with Arrows … for now

Lamontville Golden Arrows coach Clinton Larsen says there is no deal on the table for veteran midfielder Kagisho Dikgacoi‚ but is hopeful that he may be able to bring in the former Bafana Bafana star this season.

Dikgacoi‚ who played for Golden Arrows between 2005 and 2009‚ has been allowed to train with the team by owner Mato Madlala so that he can get fit.

Larsen says the 31-year-old fits the mould of the type of player he is looking to add to his squad.

“I think there may be a possibility he could be signed‚ but at the moment he is keeping fit‚” Larsen told TMG Digital.

“It is no secret he is looking for a club in South Africa and if there is a chance we can get such a quality player in then we would jump at it.

“But I have not discussed any of that with my chairwoman … hopefully though things will progress to the stage where we can offer him something.”

Larsen says Dikgacoi has been with the team for a few days but that already his quality has shone through.

“He hasn’t trained for about six weeks‚ so from a fitness point of view he probably needs around four weeks of conditioning. But you can see the quality is there and we are looking to bring in another central midfielder.

“We only have Nkanyiso Cele and Danny Phiri in the middle‚ while Musa Bilankulu has been converted to a central midfielder. So we are a bit short and are looking out for a midfielder.”

Dikgacoi was released by English Championship side Cardiff City at the end of last season with a year remaining on his contract.

He made the rare move directly from the Premier Soccer League to join then English top-flight side Fulham‚ where he failed to settle‚ but had a more successful spell with Crystal Palace.
