Thagambega all in... or out?

It will be a case of do or die for Nyelisani "The Rose of Limpopo" Thagambega when he takes on Zolile Miya for the vacant Limpopo flyweight belt next Wednesday night.

The fight at Diavha College in Makhado is the main bout of the Ndzhelele Women Sports Promoters programme.

Thagambega's battle for survival in the fistic sport is weighing heavily on his muscular shoulders.

He has been around for a while with nothing to show for his efforts and feels this is his last chance to move on to bigger fights.

That means his 10-rounder in Makhado should be a good one.

If Thagambega falls to Miya, however, all that will be left will be a few farewell fights before he waves goodbye.

The boxer from Luheni in Venda, who is trained in Boksburg by veteran Harold Volbrecht, has scored wins against some recognisable names, including Morapedi Khotle.

He lost to the likes of newly crowned WBC international mini flyweight king Deejay Kriel.

Anyone who saw Thagambega against Percy Mkhize on March 4, saw a completely different fighter .

He was clinical as he knocked Mkhize out cold in two rounds.

In a further sign of his inconsistency, he was stopped in the second round by Sihle Jelwane on March 31.

That was Thagambega's sixth TKO loss against nine wins with seven knockouts.

Miya - who is trained in Orlando by Lucky Ramagole and his son Lehlohonolo - has not had a good run since he turned professional in 2015.

The boxer has only managed three wins in his six fights.

Promoter Pauline Mashudu said: "All women should attend the tournament, which will be staged in honour of Women's Month."
