Bhengu raring to go after health scare

Royal Eagles striker Phumelele Bhengu has switched his focus to getting back to the field of play after spending a few days at the Victoria Hospital in Tongaat, KwaZulu-Natal, complaining of chest pains and shortness of breath.

"It was a difficult and scary period, but now I am feeling strong. I will try to forget this experience and concentrate on my football.

"It came from nowhere because it was the first time it happened. I was surprised because I am living a healthy lifestyle,'' Bhengu told Sowetan yesterday.

"The support I have been getting from the team, especially the coach [Kosta Papic] is amazing. I wish to repay their faith by scoring more goals and help the team get a promotion to the Absa Premiership. I know I will have to work hard because the team is playing well and the strikers are scoring.''

Since joining Eagles from SuperSport United in August last year, the 27-year-old has not lived up to his potential.

The recent brief stint at the health centre might prove a setback for the 2014/15 National First Division top goal-scorer.

Bhengu, who has so far scored two goals for Eagles, won the Golden Boot during his spell at Thanda Royal Zulu.
