Doctors impressed by Tovey's progress in hospital

South African Football Association (Safa) Technical Director and former Bafana Bafana captain Neil Tovey has impressed doctors with his progress after suffering a heart attack on Sunday afternoon.

Mark Tovey‚ Neil's older brother‚ said the Safa Technical Director has made steady improvement over the past few days.

“He is now able to sit on his own‚ walks unaided and from where I am seated‚ I must say we are really in good space as opposed to the beginning of this week‚” the elder Tovey said in a statement issued by Safa.

The senior Tovey said his younger brother still faces a lot of rehabilitation work before he can get back to his feet.

But the signs are very encouraging.

The former Bafana captain suffered a heart attack on Sunday afternoon while training and was rushed to hospital where he was placed in intensive care unit.

South Africans from all walks of life have sent messages of support to the Tovey family and Mark said they are thankful for the goodwill gesture and prayers. - TMG Digital
