Pretoria salivates at rare chance to take possession of both the Champions League and Currie Cup

The sporting gods have never been in a more generous mood and Pretoria could celebrate a unique double after the dust has settled on Sunday night.

Mamelodi Sundowns and the Blue Bulls have a huge weekend and the nation's capital could take possession of the African Champions League and the Currie Cup if the two teams win their respective matches.

Sundowns face Zamalek in the second leg of the Champions League final in Egypt on Sunday night and they have one hand on continental club football’s Holy Grail after beating the Egyptian powerhouses 3-0 in the first leg in Pretoria last Saturday.

The Bulls will get the ball rolling a day earlier when they travel to Bloemfontein to face the Cheetahs in the Currie Cup final on Saturday.

It would be a rare double for the city if both sides keep their respective ends of the bargain and win.

And to mark the rare occasion‚ Bulls captain Arno Botha exchanged shirts with his Sundowns counterpart Hlompho Kekaha ahead of this weekend's Currie Cup and Champions League Finals.

Both sides are sponsored by sports gear company Puma and the two captains met this week to show their support for the other. - TMG Digital
