De Sa in race to convince Ajax management to sign Cheeseboy‚ Mayambela

Mark Mayambela and Lebogang “Cheeseboy” Mokoena are transfer targets for Ajax Cape Town after both trained with the club in recent days‚ coach Roger de Sa said on Thursday.

Mayambela is still training at Ajax while Mokoena has returned to Johannesburg.

But De Sa said that was not the end of the process and negotiations are continuing.

“It is now a question of sitting down and seeing what works for both parties. I’ve been trying to twist my chairman’s arm on this. Hopefully we might have an announcement to make over the weekend.”

The much-travelled Mayambela has been without a club since being sacked by Mpumalanga Black Aces for disciplinary problems last season.

Mokoena has come to the end of his contract with Mamelodi Sundowns after seven injury-hampered seasons in which he made just over 50 starts.

De Sa told a press conference he was hoping to add attacking experience and wing flair to his youthful squad.

“We are also looking for the influence that senior players can bring to the club. We knew it would be wise to look at them and they did not disappoint. Now it depends on the negotiations from both sides. Those are still on going.”

Ajax‚ who start their new Premier Soccer League campaign away against newly promoted Baroka in Polokwane on Thursday‚ need more faces in their squad to bolster their chances‚ the coach added.

“It is always going to be difficult to replace what we sold‚ players like Bara (Abubacar Mobara)‚ Riyaad (Norodien) and Anssi Jaakkola. We have target good replacements in all departments and while we are going to look very solid defensively we can maybe being in a few other reinforcements elsewhere on the pitch‚” added De Sa.

“But I’m happy with what we’ve got and it is also very exciting to promote a lot of youngsters.”

Ajax have given seven players from their youth academy professional contracts for the coming season.
