Barker feels future's safe at AmaZulu

Amazulu coach Steve Barker says he and the club's management are on the "same page", even though Usuthu are almost certain not to reach the National First Division promotion playoffs.

Eighth-placed Usuthu have found the going tough in the second tier this season and are 11 points away from the play-off spots with six matches to go.

Fans are said to be unhappy with Barker at the helm, calling for the club to make changes to the technical team.

The coach, however, is confident of keeping his job despite the inconsistent results that have seen them fall further behind the chasing pack every week.

"It's going to be difficult [to reach the playoffs]. There are far too many teams that have to drop points for us to make it," said Barker.

"We have let ourselves down, especially after the defeat on the weekend [against Thanda Royal Zulu].

"Mathematically it's not impossible, so we will fight for every point. We just have to try finish the season as strong as possible and lay a foundation for next season. So we have to remain focused and work hard."

He added: "Supporters are frustrated and one understands that. They have been denied success for years. [But] management have always maintained that our relationship is strong. Everybody is on the same page."

At home, AmaZulu have let themselves down, winning only six of their 12 matches at Princess Magogo Stadium, while they've only registered three victories on the road.

Barker blamed the club's disappointing campaign on injuries, the rule dictating the number of under-23 players in the teams and the fact they did not killing off opponents when they had the opportunities to do so.

It remains to be seen if management are really on the same page as Barker or if they will put their faith in someone else to take them back to the premier division.
