Lack of a signed cheque holding up Mayambela’s release

Chippa United are yet to release Mark Mayambela‚ who remains in Port Elizabeth pending a compensation payment from SuperSport United for the remainder of his contract with the Eastern Cape-based side.

Mayambela‚ whose contract with the Chilli Boyz was due to expire at the end of June‚ had signed a three-and-half-year pre-contract with Matsatsantsa‚ but Chippa agreed to release him early to SuperSport in the January transfer window.

However‚ the Tshwane side’s chief financial officer has not put pen to the cheque that compensates Chippa for the last six months of Mayambela’s contract. Because of that‚ Siviwe Mpengesi‚ the Chippa boss‚ has asked the midfielder to remain in PE until payment is received.

“Mark was supposed to arrive at SuperSport United early this week and they were going to unveil him on Thursday‚ but he is still in PE. It is really nothing to threaten the deal‚ the only thing that remains is for SuperSport’s CFO to sign off the cheque and the player will then travel to Jozi‚” a source close to the deal told TMG Digital.

Chippa officials‚ including chief operations officer Lukhanyo Mzinzi‚ couldn’t be reached for comment.

Meanwhile‚ Mayambela’s younger brother Mihlali has completed his move from Cape Town All Stars to Swedish side Djurgadens on a three-year deal.

Mark also played for the same Swedish team in 2014.
