Maritzburg United players bowed their heads in disappointment at the the final whistle here yesterday.

This was an Absa Premiership match they should have won, but SuperSport United striker Jeremy Brockie spoilt what would have been an awesome afternoon for the visitors and their new coach Ernst Middendorp.

The New Zealand-born striker Brockie rose high to score a last- minute equaliser as SuperSport secured a valuable point in a 2-2 draw with Maritzburg.

It was probably Maritzburg's best performance this season. They were quick to close down spaces, committed in their challenges and passed the ball around with confidence in midfield, but it was not enough to get them a second victory of the season.

Unlike the ending, Maritzburg's start was very good. Aware that fellow relegation- threatened side University of Pretoria won on Saturday against Jomo Cosmos, bottom of the table Maritzburg got out of the blocks quickly and scored the opening goal after just nine minutes on the clock.

It was their chief creator, captain Kurt Lentjies, who was involved in setting up Mondli Cele to tap home from close range. SuperSport defenders should have done much better to get to the ball before Cele, but they were sleeping and were duly punished.

SuperSport came back fighting in the second half, and after a few missed chances, they finally got the equaliser, thanks to a Clayton Daniels header from David Mathebula's corner.

The Team of Choice were hungry for the victory and got what they thought was a winning goal 14 minutes from time, when defender Kwanda Mngonyama blasted the ball home after he was given too much space in the box.

But Brockie had the last say, ensuring spoils are shared
