I'm ready to leave Downs

Kwanda Mngonyama is tired of getting loaned out by Mamelodi Sundowns and is ready to leave the club for good if he is not in coach Pitso Mosimane's plans.

Mngonyama believes he is good enough to replace former Sundowns captain Alje Schut at the heart of defence after impressing on loan at Maritzburg United last season and Bidvest Wits the season before that.

However, Mosimane has indicated that the big defender is not likely to get regular game time should he stay at the club, with the likes of Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Thabo Nthethe, Mario Booysen and possibly even Tefu Mashamaite to compete with for a place in central defence.

"I can [replace Schut]," Mngonyama said. "[But] If Sundowns are not happy with me, then they should just let me go and I will see how far I can go with my career. I just want to play, nothing else.

"If the chance does not come at Sundowns, there is nothing I can do. I am ready for anything.

"As long as I have a club, where I can sign a two or three-year contract, then it's a good thing. I do not want to get loaned out," said Mngonyama.

The 21-year-old played 29 matches while at Wits in his debut season in 2013 and went on to win the player of the year award at the Team of Choice last term.

"It was good for me to play at Wits. Gavin [Hunt] believed in me from the time he saw me playing for the Sundowns reserves. He told me to enjoy my football and I managed to play 29 matches. When you work hard with Gavin you will play. He does not have favourites.

"I wanted to stay at Wits, but it did not happen. I had to move on and because I wanted to keep playing, I went to Maritzburg.

"It was an honour for me to play with coach Steve [Komphela] at Maritzburg. He believes in youngsters. He is like Gavin."
