Can Amakhosi pick themselves up after setbacks?

Kaizer Chiefs' 2013-2014 late season meltdown is the stuff of legends, which has left the soccer fraternity questioning their character and ability to pick themselves up from the canvas.

Saturday's 1-0 loss to Raja Casablanca in their CAF Champions League first-round, first-leg tie completed a miserable week for Chiefs in KwaZulu-Natal.

On Wednesday, Maritzburg United handed Chiefs their second Premier Soccer League defeat.

What was a minor bloodied nose morphed into a broken one as Chiefs took on their continental minnow form.

Amakhosi know their trip to Morocco in three weeks time will be fraught with elimination danger, but coach Stuart Baxter allayed fears that his side will crumble in the heat of continental warfare.

"I've been Chiefs coach for three years and people said this team did not have any character and we would not win anything and we did the double," Baxter said.

"In the following year they said we would not do it again because your squad is too small, but we nearly won the league again.

"This year we've been tipped to implode for about the last six months.

"I think these players do have character and they have desire.

"We always provide a lot of players to the national team.

"So it's not only us who think that we don't have character."

Baxter also admitted that Chiefs have a goal-scoring problem, which was their downfall against Raja.

"Goal-scoring is a concern and to say otherwise would be stupid really," he added.
