City could stun Chiefs

A FEW weeks ago, few would have given Polokwane City a chance of ending Kaizer Chiefs' unbeaten run in the Absa Premiership.

But after a horror start to the campaign, City have found good form and, as they host Amakhosi tonight (Peter Mokaba Stadium, 7.30pm kickoff) an upset cannot be ruled out.

Nine points from the last three matches have edged City away from the relegation zone and there is belief within the club that they can inflict a first defeat on leaders Chiefs, who have an 11-point lead at the summit.

Amakhosi have not dropped points away from home this season, but City's recent form, which has seen them beat Bidvest Wits, Free State Stars and Black Aces away, has given their coach Kosta Papic a lot of confidence going into tonight's clash.

"They [Chiefs] are the favourites, but we are not afraid of them," Papic said.

"They are playing very good football and they are winning their matches. But we are not going to sit back. We are going to attack and play our style of football.

"We are in good form at the moment, but we should remember that we have not done anything, so we are not getting excited. We need to stay focused because we still have a lot of matches to play. We have to keep performing."

City, who are in 11th place in the Absa Premiership, have enjoyed such a good run on the road that Papic said he would tell his players to treat the clash against Chiefs like an away game.

"We played three matches away and we got the points. Now we are playing at home, but it will be like a home game for Chiefs because they have the supporters. So for us it's another away match, whether we like it or not," the former Amakhosi coach said.

Chiefs will be without suspended midfielder Reneilwe Letsholonyane, while City will be looking to Puleng Tlolane to trouble Amakhosi.

Tlolane has shot to the top of the Premiership's scoring charts with seven goals.
