Papic's belief in City potential vindicated

POLOKWANE City coach Kosta Papic said the heavy 5-1 defeat his side suffered against Bloemfontein Celtic last weekend was not a true reflection of the quality in his Limpopo outfit.

The Serb was able to back that up again following their shock 2-0 win over Bidvest Wits in midweek.

Papic finally managed to get a first victory under his belt since replacing Boebie Solomons early last month when City outwitted the Clever Boys in Milpark on Wednesday night.

The coach said the win - only their second in nine Absa Premier League games - was not their last.

"This is not the end," the Serbian said in his post-match interview. "I have been saying all along that the results haven't given a clear picture of our team. The loss in Bloemfontein was unfortunate and I believe in my boys.

"We've experienced ups and downs at this stage of the season, playing very well and sometimes poorly. They are very close to adapting to the system that I want."

Papic is famous for his attacking style that has often left his sides exposed at the back, but against champion- ship contenders Wits, City goalkeeper Modiri Marumo kept a clean sheet, while strikers Puleng Tlolane and Boban Bogere found the winning goals.

"I think the character of this team came out and we saw a different Polokwane City team because I encouraged them after the defeat in Bloemfontein. I don't want to undermine Celtic, but the recovery of my team was evident and the morale is up," said Papic.

City take a break this weekend having been knocked out of the Telkom Knockout tournament two weeks ago by Orlando Pirates and next host Chippa United, Papic's former club, on November 1.

"My opinion is that we shouldn't be where we are on the table [third from bottom] and we are going to fight until the end and in every match. But we are not going to be defensive," the coach said.
