Downs keen to help out Chilli Boyz

WITH a little help from their friends in football, it seems newly promoted Chippa United could be assured of a longer stay in the Absa Premiership this time.

Champions Mamelodi Sundowns have loaned five of their players to the Premiership returnees and the Brazilians are prepared to advance even more material to United in the coming season.

Five Downs players - Doctor Mampuru, Walter Maponyane, Siyabulela Shai, Seun Ledwaba and Thabo Mokgothi - are already turning out for Chippa and were instrumental in bringing Chippa Mpengesi's charges back to the Premiership a few weeks ago.

United, who have already started making preparations for their big return to the top flight and may have coach Steve Komphela at the helm, will be back at Chloorkop this week for more players and Downs coach Pitso Mosimane is prepared to offer a helping hand.

"We are more than happy to help them again," said Mosimane.

"We would like to keep that healthy relationship we have with them and we will not let them down.

"We are prepared to sell them the players we loaned them last time because they will be of no use to us."

Mpengesi said yesterday he has a healthy relationship with Sundowns.

"They helped us a great deal when they loaned us five players who made a valuable contribution to the success of the team during our stay in the National First Division," he said.

"We come back much wiser this time."

Mpengesi has been busy in the transfer market and has signed Zimbabwean international Eric Chipeta.

The star defender, who played for Hwange in Zimbabwe, will undergo medicals next week.

Meanwhile, negotiations are at an advanced stage between Sundowns and Lamontville Golden Arrows for the services of the coastal team's striker, Bongi Ntuli.

"It is almost a done deal and the player is likely to sign for us as soon as Arrows release his clearance," said a highly placed source at Downs who did not want to be named.
