CAPE Town clubs make up the top four in the National First Division after Santos defeated Thanda Royal Zulu 2-1 on Friday.

Thanda, who are guided by former Jomo Cosmos development coach Ronnie Moroka, were the first to score, through Mazwi Mncube in the 11th minute.

But the Cape Town side equalised four minutes later through veteran campaigner Tyren Arendse, who tapped the ball into an empty net. Matthew Rowell scored the winner in the 43rd minute.

Coach David Notoane is confident that they are back in the hunt for promotion. Santos, who lost striker Vuyisile Wana to Absa Premiership outfit Moroka Swallows on Friday, just before the transfer window closed, are fourth on the log with 27 points from 17 games.

Three other Cape sides, Milano United, Chippa United and Vasco Da Gama, make up the top three.

"We are not bothered by what the three clubs above us are doing, we are playing our own game and I'm happy with our progress to date," said Notoane yesterday.

"The most important thing is to win our games both at home and away. Focusing on the other clubs will put us under unnecessary pressure."

On Wana moving to Swallows, the former SuperSport United striker said: "It's one of those things in soccer, but we have equally good players who will do the job for us."

Up north, Black Leopards stayed in sixth spot after playing to a 1-1 draw against struggling Roses United at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

"We should have wrapped it up in the first half, but one point is better than nothing," said Leopards chairman David Thidiela.
