Binkin threatens to sue Downs

KATLEGO Mphela's agent says he might sue Mamelodi Sundowns for defamation while at the same time revealing the striker has returned to training with the club.

Glyn Binkin says he is consulting lawyers over a statement released by the club on Sunday through their website that accuses him of "misleading the public" and trying to "destabilise" the club.

The Brazilians believe Binkin is trying to force a move for Mphela to Kaizer Chiefs during the current transfer window, with the player having already signed a pre-contract at Naturena for July 1 onwards.

Downs accused Binkin of planting Mphela's alleged monthly salary in the media in order to illustrate how much the club would save by releasing him early from the remainder of his contract.

"I have never discussed Mr Mphela's earnings with the media nor would I do so as this is a confidential matter," Binkin said in a statement yesterday.

"I have never attempted to mislead the public nor destabilise the club. Indeed, I have brought several players to the club over the years, many of whom have been very successful.

"Accordingly, these damaging statements made by Mamelodi Sundowns FC are rejected outright."
