Ertugral praises 'chickens'

HATCHING A PLAN: Ajax coach Muhsin Ertugral

MUHSIN Ertugral has seemingly dropped the use of the term "chickens" when talking about his young talent at Ajax Cape Town, perhaps realising it is somewhat demeaning, but is still fulsome in his praise of the club's youth policy.

"They are very good youngsters who just need more game time under their belt and one day they will be international footballers," said Ertugral.

He was speaking after his side beat league champions Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 in an Absa Premiership match at Cape Town Stadium on Tuesday night.

"I think overall we deserve to win. What I've seen here over the last couple of weeks gives me great hope because we've had bad injuries. I don't think any team in the world can get results with nine players out of action. But we have wonderful youngsters, wonderful kids; this team will go far," Ertugral predicted.

Tuesday's win was only the Urban Warriors' second league win of the season.

"Our big problem is scoring. We don't get enough numbers forward with some of our moves. But we were not short of motivation. I think Chiefs are the biggest team in Africa after Al Ahly and you don't need to motivate your players against them."

Ertugral got his tactics spot-on against Chiefs and the coach drew the most satisfaction from the flourishing finish supplied by his teenage attack.

He threw 18-year-old Bantu Mzwakali into the game in the second half and then the 19-year-old Tashreeq Morris, who scored with a close-range header in the dying stages of the match.

Another 19-year-old, Abubaker Mobara, emerged as man of the match for his midfield acumen plus setting up the 87th-minute winner.
