Celtic in hunt for strike force

AFTER successive losses in their opening two matches this season, Bloemfontein Celtic are assessing three top strikers in a bid to end their goalscoring problems.

The trio training with Phunya SeleSele are former Bafana Bafana players Thembinkosi "Terror" Fanteni, Diyo Sibisi and Sifiso Vilakazi.

Fanteni, who has also played for Ajax Cape Town and Orlando Pirates, has been given permission by Bidvest Wits to train with Phunya SeleSele.

Vilakazi was off-loaded by AmaZulu at the end of last season, while Sibisi played for Absa Premiership returnees Mpumalanga Black Aces.

Celtic chief executive Khumbulani Konco said coach Clinton Larsen and his technical staff were still having a look at the three players.

"The good thing about these players is that they are coming as free agents; we are not under any pressure because of the transfer window deadline," Konco said yesterday.

"But we need to get one or two strikers to help us score goals on a regular basis. We have lost the two opening matches of the season [3-1 to Mamelodi Sundowns in the league and 3-0 to Wits in the MTN8].

"It is still early in the season but we were hoping for a great start. We hope to bounce back in our next Premiership match against Polokwane City in Limpopo on August 28.

"After winning the Telkom Knockout last season, we are under pressure from supporters to win more silverware," he added.
