LEEDS United say they will do all they can to help Bafana Bafana striker Davide Somma find a new club.

As reported by Sowetan a month ago, the English Championship side will not be offering Somma a new contract, but have committed to helping him get back to full fitness and to finding him a new team.

Leeds manager Brian McDermott says the club physio will continue to work closely with Somma despite his contract ending this month.

"He's a great guy who is being really unlucky," McDermott told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

"We'll look after him, try to get him fit and, if something comes up for him elsewhere, we will try to make sure that nothing stops him taking up the opportunity.

"At the moment he just needs to concentrate on getting fit and over all the injuries. You feel for him."

Somma was injured in pre-season with Leeds in July 2011 and has made just a handful of appearances for the club in the last two years after a number of setbacks with his problematic knee.

He joined Leeds in 2009 after a successful trial.

He became a first team regular at Leeds in the 2010-11 campaign, scoring 12 goals in 32 appearances and becoming a firm crowd favourite.

His career was certainly on the up after that season but the serious knee injury sustained in pre-season for the 2011-12 campaign had brought it to a grinding halt.

All together, he has scored 22 goals in 52 appearances in England.

Somma made his Bafana Bafana debut against US in November 2010 and scored his first international goal a few months later against Kenya.
