I back Abel 100%, claims Leopards boss

BLACK Leopards chairman David Thidiela has rubbished reports that the club's technical director, Sunday Chidzambwa, is back in charge of the team in the head coach role.

It was claimed last week that coach Abel Makhubela had been sidelined after a poor start to 2013 but Thidiela denied there was any truth to the rumour.

"Abel is still the coach, 100 percent," said Thidiela.

"Sunday is the technical director of the club and as such it is his job to provide input to the head coach on team matters. That is normal.

"We are grooming Abel, we have said that all along. He has great qualifications, but has never coached a big team before so we have given him this opportunity to get experience until the end of the season.

"We will take it from there, after that, and as far as I am concerned, nothing will change between now and then."

Chidzambwa was on the bench for the club's 5-4 victory over Cape Town All Stars in the Nedbank Cup last week, but it was Makhubela who was calling the shots.

"Sunday is the perfect person to work above Abel as he knows the players very well and has a very good football brain," Thidiela said.

"If he sits on the bench it is not to interfere with what Abel is doing, but to be of help if needed."

Thidiela confirmed that Chidzambwa had been present at training as well, but insisted there was nothing sinister to this either.

"It is his job to give input to Abel and if he goes to training and says let's try this, or let's do that, what is the problem?

"It is his responsibility as far as I am concerned to ensure the team is a winning one."
