BIDVEST Wits hope to start new life under coach Clive "The Dog" Barker with a comprehensive win at the expense of Black Leopards in Polokwane this evening.

This 7.30 clash at Peter Mokaba Stadium will be the first official game for Bafana Bafana's 1996 Afcon winning coach, who joined Wits last month after the departure of Antonio Habas Lopez.

Former Bafana Bafana captain Aaron "Mbazo" Mokoena said they wanted to welcome Barker back to the PSL with a win to start 2013 on a high note.

"We have been training hard during the Afcon break, so everybody is fired up to get back into the PSL action with renewed vigour," said Mokoena.

"Clive is a great coach with massive experience. We are confident we will fly higher and higher with him in the driving seat.

"We expect a tough game from Leopards but want a win to give Clive a memorable return to coaching in the PSL."

Also looking forward to playing in Polokwane is local boy Tlou "Spanner" Molekwane, the hard-working former Kaizer Chiefs defender now doing duty for Wits.

"It's always great to go back to Polokwane, which is where I started my soccer career. We are going there for a win," said Molekwane.

Leopards chairman David Thidiela has elevated Abel Makhubele to the position of head coach after parting ways with Ian Palmer last month. Makhubele is excited with the enthusiasm displayed by his charges after their successful tour to Tanzania two weeks ago.

"Wits have signed an array of big-name players like Mokoena, Tinashe Nengomasha, Bryce Moon, Thapelo Tshilo and Molekwane, so it's going to be a tough game," said Makhubele.

"It will be great for me to get my first win as head coach in the PSL, that's what we are going to fight for to improve our position on the log."

Makhubele was the caretaker coach in their last Absa Premiership match in December where they played to a 2-2 draw with Bloemfontein Celtic.

At that time Palmer was still suspended.

Lidoda Duvha have experienced players like Raymond Monama, Vincent Mabusela, Edgar Manaka, Rodney Ramagalela and Thabo Mongalo capable of sending The Clever Boys back home empty-handed.
