'Put cash into soccer development' - Motsepe

SOUTH Africa must channel more money into football development so that the country can produce quality players to make Bafana Bafana and other national teams succeed.

This is according to billionaire and Mamelodi Sundowns president Patrice Motsepe, whose family sponsors a high school tournament where the winners walk away with a first prize of R1-million.

Speaking at the end of the 2012 Kay Motsepe under-19 Cup in Bloemfontein, Motsepe said: "We have talent in abundance in South Africa, which must be nurtured.

"We need to pay more attention in the development of our youth, especially in the townships where we must work closely with teachers at schools."

The tournament is named after Motsepe's mother who, he said, "loved and supported soccer".
