McCarter and Tenge trade verbal blows

THE first verbal shots were fired ahead of the war between Layla "Amazing" McCarter and Noni "She Bee Stingin" Tenge for the vacant WBA junior middleweight title.

The former world champions will do battle at Alexander Golf and Country Club in East London on September 30.

McCarter's trainer and manager Luis Tapia warned: "I hope Tenge is training very hard because Layla is ready to fight today.

"Noni doesn't have any idea of what she will be facing on September 30.

This is only the beginning for McCarter. There still a lot to conquer for her. She is getting better and better."

McCarter, 33, fought her first professional fight in 1998.

The former Women's International Boxing Federation junior lightweight, WBA and Global Boxing Union lightweight, GBU and WIBF junior welterweight champion has an impressive fight record of 34 wins (7 KOs) against 13 losses and five draws.

Tenge is not impressed by this resumé and cannot wait to get the promised "boxing lesson".

"Look, Layla beat Daniella Smith on points but I stopped Smith in four rounds. That says it all about her capabilities," Tenge said.

She stopped the New Zealander in Brakpan on June 11 last year to win the IBF welterweight title, but forfeited that belt recently due to inactivity.

Tenge, 31, from Mdantsane, made her professional debut in 2007. She has held the WBF and IBF titles in the welterweight division and is undefeated after 12 fights.

She has nine stoppages and a draw.

Her trainer, Balekile "Madala" Sam, said McCarter does not know how good Tenge is.
