Iran great Daei hurt in car crash

Asian football chiefs offered their "thoughts and prayers" to Ali Daei on Sunday after the Iranian legend was injured in a car accident.

Despite early media reports that the former Bayern Munich player had been "critically injured", Iranian state TV said that the player only suffered a head injury but had no fractures.

He was pictured speaking from his hospital bed in the city of Isfahan where he had been attending a match in his capacity as manager of Iranian club Rah Ahan.

A statement from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) said: "The AFC wishes Iranian legend Ali Daei, who was involved in a car accident on Saturday, a speedy and full recovery.

"We stand ready to assist Daei, who is a true icon of Asian football. Our thoughts and prayers are with him."

The 42-year-old Daei is credited with being the world's top goal scorer in international matches. He scored 109 goals in 149 international games.
