Radingoana passes on

BENONI United legend Ephraim Murphy Radingoane has died at the age of 59.

Radingoane, one of the many soccer stars to come out of Daveyton, died at Tambo Memorial Hospital in Ekurhuleni on Friday morning after a long illness.

"Murphy was one of the greatest soccer players of his era. His death came as shock to us," said former United player Dan "Dance" Malete. "He was not selfish. He used to encourage the youngsters to work hard at training and during their spare time to become great players."

He was a playmaker par-excellence and went by a myriad of nicknames including "Mchini", "Troublemaker" and "Way'qhaqha way'thunga". He was spotted while representing his school, Etwatwa Secondary in Wattville.

Some of the Rabbits players who were in the same team with Radingoane include Meshack "Mr Executive" Mjanqeka, Richard "Litre" Lata, Peter "Blue Monday" Sejake, Solomon "Gento" Moshabane, the Njokweni brothers - Amos and Thomas - and Kenneth "The Horse" Mokgojoa. He was also the brother-in-law of Sowetan and Sunday World Sports Editor Sello Rabothata.

Radingoane will be buried on Saturday at 9am at Lala Noxolo Cemetery in Crystal Park. The funeral service will take place at the NG Kerk on the corner of Mabena and Fokeng streets.
