Maritzburg beef up their defence

AFTER admitting his team's rearguard problem last season, Maritzburg United head coach Ian Palmer has signed former Kaizer Chiefs defender Wayne Matle and Morne Davids from National First Division side FC Cape Town.

The 23-year-old Matle is a talented player though he failed to break into Chiefs' first team during his stay in Naturena.

He was capped at U-20 and U-23 level for South Africa, while Davids has been a regular with the Cape side for several years.

The Team of Choice's commercial manager Younus Kadodia said: "We are very pleased to welcome Wayne and Morne to the club. Both are young, hungry players with a point to prove in the PSL and we believe that them signing for us will be a win-win situation for both club and player.

"The management has been hard at work to bring in the players that the technical team feels we need to add to the squad and we are very pleased with the signings we have made so far during the off-season.

"The squad has a solid, balanced feel to it with good strength in depth in all positions. With the new players we have brought in, we are confident of a successful season ahead."
