BAFANA Bafana team doctor Ephraim Nematswerani moved swiftly to allay fears yesterday by announcing that England-based star midfielder Steven "Schillo" Pienaar will start training with the rest of his Bafana Bafana teammates tomorrow.

Bafana play a crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Egypt on Saturday night at Ellis Park.

The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder is recovering from a groin injury described as "mild" by Nematswerani.

Nematswerani also revealed that Siphiwe "Shabba" Tshabalala was carrying a hamstring injury, though the Kaizer Chiefs linkman trained yesterday.

Tshabalala sustained the injury in a league match against Free State Stars at Peter Mokaba Stadium on March 5.

He did not play against Nathi Lions in the last-32 of the Nedbank Cup.

"These are mild injuries we should not worry about," Nematswerani said.

But coach Pitso Mosimane seemed not to heed the doctor's advice on Schillo's injury.

"It's a concern because we need (Pienaar) his presence, his leadership and his experience. We need his experience from the World Cup, the Confederations Cup and the (European) Champions League," Mosimane said.

Pienaar said he picked up the injury a month ago and added that "it gets worse" every time he plays but he was still hopeful of leading his teammates out against an Egypt side struggling in the group stages with only one point in two games.

"It is an honour to captain the side in an official match such as this (as opposed to a friendly). Hopefully we will win the three points. I'm not feeling the pressure at all and we must just go into the match focused," Pienaar said, also paying tribute to his predecessor Aaron "Mbazo" Mokoena who he described as "a natural leader".

Despite their struggles, Mosimane reckons the Pharaohs will give them a good run.

"Egypt have named their strongest team. They have called all their overseas-based players and that shows how serious they are. They will come here with the aim of winning," he said.
