Libya match in jeopardy

THE opening 2012 London Olympic qualifier between the South African Under-23 soccer side and Libya in Daveyton on March 27 is hanging in the balance.

The Football Association of Libya has failed on countless occasions to respond to correspondence from their South African counterparts regarding travel arrangements.

The oil-rich North African country has been in turmoil since last month when many Libyans went on the rampage demanding the resignation of leader Muammar Gaddafi.

Safa yesterday announced the team to play Libya in Braamfontein and team manager Barney Kujane is hoping that the North Africans will make it for the clash.

"We have received a letter from Fifa confirming that the match is on at Sinaba Stadium. A copy was also sent to Libya and the referees," he said.
