Danish cyclist Nielsen fails dope test

DENMARK - Danish professional cyclist Philip Nielsen is under investigation after testing positive for doping, the Danish Cycling Federation says

Nielsen tested positive for clenbuterol during the Tour of Mexico (Vuelta Mexico) in April 2010, the cycling federation said.

The case is being reviewed by the Danish Sports Federation.

The rider has told his former team, Team Concordia, that he was unaware of how the substance had entered his system since he had "not knowingly" consumed it.

Nielsen, who has no current contract, later told Danish news agency Ritzau he would quit cycling if he received a two-year ban.

Team Concordia manager Karl William Carlsen said the announcement of the failed test was a blow to the team that has a strict anti-doping policy.
