Unpaid runners call CGA to account

TOP marathoner Norman Dlomo is one of the athletes who plans to approach Central Gauteng Athletics to demand prize monies for the Maponya Mall Half-Marathon.

The event was organised by Malcolm X Athletics Club from Ekurhuleni and Makoya Club from Greater Johannesburg. The logo of Central Athletics Gauteng appears on the pamphlet for the race, which took place in Soweto in August.

"We are calling all the athletes who are owed money by the organisers of the Maponya Mall Half-Marathon to attend a meeting at the mall on Saturday at 10am," Dlomo said.

"One of the suggestions is to ask for an urgent meeting with the board of CGA. We want the board to (tell) us who authorised the half-marathon. CGA president James Moloi owes us an explanation."

Moloi, who is also the chairperson of Malcolm X Athletics Club, said: "We are also struggling to get hold of the organisers of the event."
