AmaZulu's Mabaso hopes for early strike

AMAZULU are going back to their "roots" - Princess Magogo Stadium - and will host high-flyers Orlando Pirates at this revamped KwaMashu venue tomorrow.

Their Absa Premiership match kicks off at 7.30pm and it will be the first official match to be played at the venue after it was given a facelift for the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

The stadium was the training venue for the global event in June and July.

AmaZulu decided to return to their traditional base in KwaMashu because Moses Mabhida Stadium is being prepared for the Twenty20 match between South Africa and India billed for January.

Club publicist Philani "Zane" Mabaso said though they will return to the city venue in January, they will still host some of their matches at Princess Magogo.

AmaZulu will host two matches, against Free State Stars on November 27 and Mpumalanga Black Aces on December 19, at the KwaMashu venue before going into the festive break.

"We are happy to be back home and we urge our supporters to come in big numbers to rally behind the team against Orlando Pirates who are on top of their game," Mabaso said.

Usuthu face a Bucs team that is not only playing an enterprising brand of football but also scoring stunning goals.

They thumped SuperSport United 3-0 in a Cup match on Saturday.

They went into that encounter on the back of another 3-0 drubbing of Ajax Cape Town in a league match.

AmaZulu's goal-poacher Ayanda "Cobra" Dlamini does not only acknowledge Pirates' goalscoring prowess, but also their strength at the back.

"We need to sharpen up our shooting if we intend to score against them," Dlamini said yesterday.

"We know what we're faced with. If we can concentrate on our game and not be worried about their form we can get a result. I'm looking forward to the game and we'll hopefully score early."

But looking at their current form, the Buccaneers should have it easy.
