Fredericks raring to go for Wits

BIDVEST Wits midfielder Stanton "Stiga" Fredericks is set to make his debut for The Students against Free State Stars in an Absa Premiership clash at Milpark Stadium tomorrow at 3pm.

Former Bafana Bafana midfielder Fredericks joined Wits on a two-year contract last month after returning from a stint with Greek club Pierikos FC.

Fredericks is raring to play for his new club after he missed the side's three opening matches due to a hamstring injury.

Yesterday Wits manager George "Soekkies" Mogotsi confirmed that Fredericks will be in the starting line-up against Stars.

"We are happy that Fredericks' injury has healed completely and he can't wait to play on Saturday.

"I am hopeful that his experience will come in handy for us as we are hoping to challenge for silverware and the championship," Mogotsi said.

"We have been working very hard during the enforced break. The guys look razor-sharp and ready for their coming matches.

"Stars are a strong team but were are not going to show them any respect because we desperately need the three points that will be at stake."

The match can go either way, though, based on the sides' indifferent starts to the season.

Wits have collected four points from a possible 12, while Stars have managed three points from four matches.

Stars coach Steve Komphela is looking for a first win of the season. The visitors have been boosted by the return of Kennedy Mweene and Noah Chivuta from international duty.
