MINISTER of Public Works Thulas Nxesi has been making all the right noises about his department.

He has promised to clean the rot and to bring to book all those involved in corruption.

It is important that Nxesi moves with speed to implement his undertakings.

The crisis in the department is affecting ordinary people. Yesterday, we published a story about how the Department of Correctional Services runs a parole office on a pavement in Johannesburg.

They were kicked out of a property in the CBD owned by Numprop - a property arm of the National Union of Mineworkers - because Public Works failed to pay rent.

Prisons officials fear that some of the crucial files of parolees could be lost in the offices they no longer have access to.

It's a disgrace that has resulted not from lack of money, but for failing to use it correctly.
