It's a travesty

MINISTER of Justice and Constitutional Development Jeff Radebe has warned and defended his subjects no end.

He had to. A number of dockets have gone missing from police stations and courts;

Victims often have to wait ad infinitum for their complaints to get the courts' attention. Some perpetrators have escaped punishment because of this.

These are judicial debacles troubling three women and a driver injured when soccer icon Doctor Khumalo allegedly drove into the back of their taxi in May 2008.

The case was postponed yesterday - for the umpteenth time - because the prosecutor has been transferred. The victims' ire is perfectly understandable.

If the judiciary can't see the need for a replacement to, among other things, avoid backlogs then the leadership is contemptuous.

Lest we forget, Mr Minister, justice delayed is justice denied.
