The South African Police Service, in its serious resolve to fight crime, says it found some lighter and comical moments over the past year when combating crime.
In one incident east of Pretoria, police say, four robbers entered a restaurant with the aim of robbing it at about 1am.
A wide-awake patron saw them and switched off the lights and, in the darkness, the suspects fired off about a dozen shots.
At the end of it all a robber lay dead from two head wounds, and another was wounded in the chest - from the guns of their own partners-in-crime.
Police say criminals are not as sharp as they often like to think they are. They are, police say, actually "dumb, dumber and dumbest!"
