Toilet interruption prompts punch in face for census collector

A New Zealand man who punched a census collector in the face for knocking on his door while he was on the toilet has been sentenced to 10 months in jail, the Taranaki Daily News reported on Friday.

Raymond Hauraki, 47, pleaded guilty to common assault. He told police he was annoyed at the man for knocking on the door of his home while he was in the bathroom, and did not like being made to complete the census forms.

Judge Gregory Ross said filling out a census form was a modest price to pay for citizenship. "You punched a man who was just doing his job."
