17 children shook up after taxi collides with tree

Seventeen children who had spent the day playing in a soccer match were injured when a taxi they were travelling in collided with a tree on Springs Road in Daveyton on Wednesday afternoon.

The children are believed to be between nine and 15 years old.

ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak said paramedics from his company and those from other services arrived on the scene at 4.30pm where they found all the children‚ including the driver of the taxi‚ sitting on a grass embankment near the taxi.

“It is believed the children climbed out of the taxi shortly after the collision with the tree.

“They were all treated for minor scrapes and bruises before they were transported to Sunshine Hospital for further care. The driver of the taxi was not injured.”
