Veteran Mamelodi Sundowns' midfielder Godfrey "Rasta" Sapula reckons the Brazilians are in a good position to successfully defend the Castle Premiership title.
"We have a solid team. The only thing that we need to do is to be consistent," said Sapula after the 1-0 win over SuperSport United at Super Stadium on Saturday night.
"It was a great victory. It is always great to emerge victorious in a derby because the expectations from the supporters are high.
"We were well prepared for United. The win has helped us move a step closer to the top of the log. We just have to remain focused during our matches.
"I think we have a pretty good chance of winning the league. It is still early, but the most important thing is to get maximum points in our matches."
Sapula was the hero of the match after scoring the all important 64th minute goal, which saw Sundowns pocketing maximum points.
It was Sapula's second goal in three appearances. He scored when they beat Black Leopards 3-0 at the same venue three weeks ago.
An elated Sundowns' coach, Gordon Igesund, commended his charges for displaying what he described as " carpet football".
"It was an incredible victory, we played very well and deserved to win. I was impressed by the way we played, it was carpet football."
Igesund, who has won three record Premiership titles with three different clubs, added that the win augurs well for Sundowns' quest for a second consecutive championship title.
Pitso Mosimane, United's coach, said: "It was not our day. We gave it our best shot. We will continue to fight because our target this season is winning the league."
It was sweet revenge for the Brazilians, who were defeated 2-0 by Matsatsantsa a Pitori in a SAA Supa 8 semifinal match not so long ago.
Sundowns pulled out the ageing Zimbabwe international Peter Ndlovu and Jose Torrealba for Elias Ngwepe and Tyren Arendse, respectively.
On the other hand, Mosimane introduced Kwena Mathopa for Swazi international Tony Tsabedze.
