Escaped KZN lions recaptured after cow feast
Residents on the fringes of Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park in KwaZulu-Natal are no longer living in fear after rangers herded a pride of eight escaped lions back into the conservancy on Wednesday.
KZN Ezemvelo Wildlife spokesperson Musa Mntambo said that the pride‚ consisting of three adults and five cubs‚ are thought to have left the confines of the park on Tuesday. During their 24 hour sojourn‚ three head of cattle were killed.
“By the time we realised they had escaped they were out already so we are still trying to establish how they got out. The mission for us this morning was to get them back inside‚” he said.
He said that rangers had used a helicopter to push the big cats back into the park. He said that those who lost livestock would be compensated and that if any more cattle had been lost‚ they expected to hear about it in the days to come.
