Budding rapper Flex Rabanyan blew away television viewers with his raw rap talent on Vuzu Hustle, the popular Vuzu Amp talent search.

The television show is a platform for many aspiring rappers to showcase their work - and that is exactly what Mthembu did.

The 22-year-old, whose real name is Mpumelelo Mthembu, was born and bred in Eskhawini, KwaZulu-Natal.

Mthembu grew up in a musical home. Asked why he chose rap, Mthembu says he has a story to tell.

"I realised I could put words together so well and be honest while at it.

"Vuzu Hustle was an amazing and life changing experience," says Mthembu.

He adds that if he could change one thing about the Vuzu Hustle experience, he would not have cried on live television.

The judging panel that included Stogie T, AKA and Khuli Chana were not lenient on the contestants but Mthembu had no problem with their criticism.

"I wasn't intimidated by the judges in a sense that I wanted to learn more about rap. The person I admire the most is Scoop (the presenter)."

With social media going crazy after his win, many youngsters now look up to the new rapper.

His advice to aspirant rappers is: "Believe in yourself. You must not look up to me. Be happy. Find your spot in the game and thrive."

Mthembu says he's in no rush to set stages alight.

"Don't expect live performances yet, I will be spending more time in the studio."

Mthembu says he is already working on collaborations with his former house mates.

He also would like to keep working with underground rappers rather than prominent ones.
