Khayelitsha police arrest father after two-year-old raped and murdered

A 25-year-old man has been arrested in Khayelitsha in Cape Town connection with the rape and murder of his two-year-old daughter who was in his care‚ Western Cape police said on Sunday.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana said the toddler had been taken to Khayelitsha Day hospital on Sunday morning by her paternal grandmother after she was alerted by the suspect that the child was not breathing.

 “She was certified dead on arrival at the hospital by the doctor. The two-year-old had been in [her] father’s care after the suspect requested time with [the]child as he had recently been released from prison‚” Rwexana said.

 She added that detectives from the Family Violence‚ Child Protection and Sexual Offences division were investigating a case of rape and murder.

The suspect is expected to appear in court soon.
