Attempted murder case opened after four-storey elevator plunge at police station

Foul play is suspected to have caused an elevator to drop to the ground from the fourth floor of a police station in Nelson Mandela Bay.

The elevator was carrying three police officials and four clerks‚ mostly from the Criminal Record Centre division‚ The Herald reported on Monday.

An independent investigation into the incident last month‚ which resulted in the occupants having to be hospitalised‚ revealed that several counter weights had allegedly been removed from the elevator.

A case of attempted murder is now under investigation.
