Maskandi star in R44 000 row

Renowned maskandi artist Mjikijelwa is refusing to pay back R44000 that he allegedly solicited from emerging star and businesswoman Kholeka Chemane, popularly known as Indodakazi yeNtandane.

The debt dates back to 2013, and despite Chemane's pleas Mjikijelwa, whose real name is Sibongiseni Ngubane, has been making endless excuses, according to Chemane.

Chemane, who also owns Bahluph'intandane Construction company, told Sowetan that on February 2013 Ngubane solicited R30000 from her, promising to record her but failed to do so.

She said in March 2013, Ngubane borrowed R9000 from her because he was broke. Again, at the memorial service of Umhlobo Wenene FM presenter Saba Mbixane, held in Durban on March 3, Ngubane allegedly borrowed R5000 from Chemane in order to donate to Mbixane's family.

Sowetan has obtained bank deposit slips of the money deposited by Chemane to Ngubane's bank account. Ngubane allegedly promised to pay back the money before the end of March since Chemane wanted to use it to pay her construction workers, but until today he had not paid it back.

"I was surprised why Ngubane donated so much money to Mbixane's family since I knew he was in financial problems.

"He told me he had performed in some gigs and would pay me back before the end of March," she said.

Chemane said when she went to Mbixane's memorial service she had R10000, a payment from construction work she did in Durban.

She said when Ngubane approached her to borrow money for donation, she obliged. "Friendship between Ngubane and I is now broken since he has been refusing to pay back my money. He now calls me nasty names when I demand my money," Chemane said.

However, she said she would not rest until she got her money back.

When called for comment, Ngubane became irritated. He said he didn't want to talk about "nonsense".

"I don't want to talk about that nonsense because I will end up (saying) something to you I might regret later, so let's just drop it.

"And please, never call me about that thing again ... you can only call me if you want to talk about something else," a furious Ngubane said before hanging up.
